I
am a passionate educator, who has worked in higher education since 2004, developing and implementing of programmes and curricula. Over the years, I have created and taught courses in corporate communication, storytelling, philosophy and sociology of the arts,
comparative literature and life writing. I hold both a University Teaching Qualification and a Senior Teaching Qualification and apart from teaching myself, have extensive experience in quality maintenance for study programmes in higher education.
As
a researcher, my career began in literary narratology (the study of storytelling). Since then, my research has branched out to assessing the uses of narrative in diverse contexts, such as classroom interactions, conspiracy theories, and the metaverse. Especially in the past five years, I actively contributed to the establishment of the field of applied narratology—the transfer of the insights and findings of the academic study of narrative to narrative practices—and putting the theme of narrative literacy—the capacity, not only to storify our life experiences, but also to reflect on how we and others do so—on the research agenda of narrative studies. I regularly contribute with paper presentations and keynotes to international conferences and symposia devoted to storytelling, with a special focus on its ethics.
In case you were wondering: my name is easier than it looks. It is pronounced Shoort-Yaroon Moonandar (with 'oo' as in 'moon').
